Columbia Dining Volunteers at NY Common Food Pantry
In support of community efforts to address food insecurity, more than 20 managers and Chefs from the Columbia Dining team volunteered at the New York Common Pantry (NYCP) on August 8, 2023.
NYCP is one of New York City’s largest community-based food pantries. Founded in 1980, the organization is dedicated to reducing hunger and food insecurity through the distribution of pantry packages and hot meals, as well as case management services to connect individuals to local support resources. In 2022, they provided more than 9.3 million meals to hungry New Yorkers across Manhattan and the Bronx.
During their volunteer day, Columbia Dining staff helped assemble pantry packages of fresh and non-perishable foods, assisted individuals and families with submitting request forms, and prepared ingredients for the NYCP’s hot meal program. Columbia Dining Operations Manager Daphne Mendez, who coordinated the volunteer event, says of the experience, “the team really appreciated the opportunity to connect with the local community and with each other in such a meaningful way.”
